FINAL POSTER

Evaluation

First I placed the title underneath where the key image will be. The image is much bigger then the rest of the text which means that it will be the first thing that you read when seeing the poster. The next thing they will see from the text will be the slogan in front of the key image, I decided on the slogan "and counting" which ties into the main graphic in front of the image on the poster. Suggesting that there will be more red strokes to come and also tell the audience that there the graphic image has a lot of significance to the overall poster and story of the film. This is interesting and will make people want to see the film because they want to find out what it means and how it will impact the overall story. It also shows the film is in the crime genre, shown by the blood red streaks which suggest murder e.g. crime/horror.

Underneath the title card I put the credits for the film in very small text because although it has to be on the official poster, the target audience do not want to read it as it bares no significance with the story/plot. The text is smaller then the tagline and date but bigger then the credits so that it is not the main focus point of the poster but still stands out and is readable.

The next thing that I did was insert my main key image of the lead actor in the film. After looking at posters for films in the crime/thriller genre I decided to change my image from black to white and darken the shading of the image as this is common in most thriller movie posters. I think that my research helped me a lot with the making of this poster as I did not know how to use the image at this point. Some of the film posters which I looked at for inspiration were The Adjustment Bureau-2012 and Michael Clayton-2007. I desaturated the image as well to give it a much more grainy and faded look, making it feel more authentic to the poster. Taking out the colour made it match the black background and Made the use of the colour red in the graphics and text standout more and appear much more vibrant than before.

Overall I think that this poster is very successful and appeals to its target audience due to its imagery and thematic content. I also made the key image much bigger so that it was the main focus point of the poster. Finally I added a date which follows the conventions of a movie poster and makes it look more legitimate to the audience. I think that the colour scheme also appeals to the audience as it represents the conventions of a crime/thriller film which they want to see.

I think that my movie poster is successful because it looks like a real crime movie poster. It follows most of the crime movie conventions, it has a title, key image, background, actors, credits and date. I think that the key image is a strong point of the poster as it stands out from everything else, appeals to the audience and makes the character look like they are in a crime film. I think one weakness in my poster is the fonts. For the title I could have chosen something more interesting and recognisable so that people would relate that font to the movie.
